My 10-year-old mattress was getting a little hard. I used to wake up with a mild back pain every morning. So I thought I'd get a mattress topper and a pad. I bought this Simmons pad first, and I decided to start using it until I found a topper I liked. But now, I don't think I need a topper (maybe later I'll get one just to try). This pad has changed my mattress completely. It isn't hard anymore, it's very soft, and I don't wake up with a back pain anymore.I bought a Queen size and it's exactly the size of the mattress. Sometimes it shifts to one size,about half an inch or less, but it doesn't bother me.
It had an old smell when we got it, but after washing it, it was fine. By the way, it requires a front-loading washer.
