Even though I live in a drafty colonial stone farmhouse, I didn't realize until recently that my sleep problems during the winter months were so temperature related. Sweating under down comforters, having electric blankets slide off the bed and awakening to my feet hitting cold spots were the culprits until I purchased a heated mattress pad. The Sunbeam king sized model proved to be the best value with its dual 10-step controls, even heating and automatic shut-off after ten hours. With the heat emanating from underneath, the entire bed surface is pleasantly warm and I am comfortable all night with only a thin acrylic blanket and cotton spread to contain the heat. I've found that setting the thermostats on 'High' about an hour before bed and turning them back to '3' or '4' while sleeping works best. One minor problem is that the controls don't start the coils heating in the lowest temperature settings. They should be set at '8' or above to first warm the bed and then moved back for a night free of cold spots.
