It is exactly what they tell you it is. It had a weird smell which lasted a few days but eventually dissapeared. I am a college student and my back used to hurt a lot, it still hurts now, but way less. The investment was defenitely worth it (the price of a new mattress is way above this). Fixed the pressure point problem my bed had for sure. You might consider buying a mattress pad without the "extra back support" because it can be uncomfortable sometimes. Also, a thicker mattress pad would provide more cushioning on the shoulders, which this lacks.
